Mr. Marples

asked the Minister of Transport what was the total annual value of contracts placed by his Department from 1964 until the latest year for which figures are available, in total and by industry order; and what percentage of the total, and of each industry order, was placed as a result of competitive tendering in each year.

On the understanding that the right hon. Member's Question relates to procurement only, the total values of contracts placed in the last five financial years are given below.

It is not possible without disproportionate expense to give the total annual value of contracts or the percentage placed as a result of competitive tendering.
