HC Deb 25 July 1969 vol 787 cc573-4W
Mr. Tom Boardman

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many patients in the Leicester area are awaiting admission to the chronic sick hospitals in that area.

Mr. Crossman

160 patients are awaiting admission to geriatric beds in hospitals administered by the Leicester Nos. 1 and 2 Hospital Management Committees.

Mr. Tom Boardman

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many beds at the Chronic Sick Hospital, Hillcrest, Leicester, have been withdrawn from use because of a reduction in the establishment of nurses.

Mr. Crossman

61 beds are closed at present as a result of vacancies in the nursing establishment, thought to be mainly seasonal.

The establishment is being reviewed in case it needs to be increased in view of the more active treatment now provided.
