HC Deb 24 July 1969 vol 787 c459W
Q19. Mr. Maurice Macmillan

asked the Prime Minister how many investigations are currently being undertaken by the Government into the collection and adjustment of figures that provide leading economic indicators.

The Prime Minister

I assume that the hon. Member refers to investigations such as that into the under-recording of exports. No other major inquiries of this kind are currently in hand but nearly all statistical inquiries involve estimated adjustments to some extent for late or incomplete reporting, and the statisticians concerned are continually seeking to improve such estimates.

Q20. Mr. Maurice Macmillan

asked the Prime Minister whether he is satisfied with the Government's statistical services; and if he will make a statement.

The Prime Minister

I would refer the hon. Member to my reply earlier today to a question by my hon. Friend the Member for Fife, West (Mr. William Hamilton).
