HC Deb 24 July 1969 vol 787 c483W
Mr. Edward M. Taylor

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what was the average rate payment made by householders in Scotland in 1968; what were the comparable figures in 1963 and 1958 and what estimate he has made of the average payment in 1969.

Mr. Ross

In 1968–69 the average rate payment by householders is estimated at £44 12s. (including domestic water rate): comparable figures for 1963–64 and 1958–59 are £33 13s. and £28 respectively. It is too early to make an estimate for 1969–70.

Mr. Edward M. Taylor

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many rate rebates were granted to Scottish domestic ratepayers in 1968; and what was the average rebate.

Mi. Ross

Returns of rebates granted in the financial year 1968–69 are now being received from rating authorities, but complete information will not be available for some time.

Figures for the year 1967–68 are given in the White Paper "Rate Rebates in Scotland—1967–68" (Cmnd. 3815).
