asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many people at present detained in Rampton have never been charged with any offence.

456 of the patients in Rampton on 10th July, 1969, were detained in pursuance of applications made by their nearest relatives or by mental welfare officers under Section 26 of the Mental Health Act or under similar arrangements under earlier Acts. 22 were detained on the direction of the Secretary of State for Home Affairs having been found under disability by a court.
