HC Deb 24 July 1969 vol 787 c476W
Mr. Gwynfor Evans

asked the Minister of Power what was the total sum spent on research in 1968–69 by the gas industry, the electricity industry and the coal industry, respectively; and what proportions were spent in Wales.

Mr. Freeson

The information available to me relates to research and development. The sums spent by the Gas Council and Area Boards, the Electricity Council and Area Boards and the National Coal Board were approximately £5 millions, £10 millions and £4½ million respectively.

I am informed by the industries that the proportions of these totals spent in Wales were about ½per cent. and 1 per cent. respectively in the case of the Gas Council and the National Coal Board. Some of the electricity research is carried out in Wales but separate information as to the amount spent is not available.
