HC Deb 24 July 1969 vol 787 c428W
65. Mr. Gordon Campbell

asked the Secretary of State for Employment and Productivity what are the provisional figures for changes in the numbers of employees in employment in Scotland between June, 1965, and December, 1968, for men, women, in manufacturing industry, in service industries, and in total, respectively.

Mr. Fernyhough

Between June, 1965, and December, 1968, it is provisionally estimated that the total number of employees in employment in Scotland decreased by 52,000 (-54,000 males and +2,000 females).

Industrial analyses of the estimates are only available for June and I am circulating in the OFFICIAL REPORT a table showing changes between June, 1965, and June, 1968.

Following is the information

Aged 18 to 54 Women Aged 55 and over Total
Bexhill 15 10 25
Hailsham 9 7 16
Hastings 64 27 91

In addition there were 6 boys and 4 girls registered at the Bexhill Careers Office, which also covers the Rye, Hailsham and Battle areas. There were no school leavers registered for first employment.
