HC Deb 24 July 1969 vol 787 cc469-70W
Mr. Roy Hughes

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what was the number of motorists in Wales subjected to breathalyser tests in 1967 and 1968, respectively; and how many prosecutions ensued, and with what results, in each year.

Mr. Elystan Morgan

Between 9th October and 31st December, 1967, breath tests were required under Section 2(1) and (2) of the Road Safety Act, 1967, in 468 cases. The figure for the whole of 1968 was 3,519. Statistics of prosecutions relating directly to those cases are not available; but during 1967 there were 603 and during 1968 there were 1,516 prosecutions for all drink-and-driving offences under the Road Traffic Act, 1960 and the Road Safety Act, 1967.
