HC Deb 23 July 1969 vol 787 c402W
Mr. Berry

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will give details of the research facilities being employed by the Maxwell Stamp Committee in its official inquiry into the London taxi system.

Mr. Merlyn Rees

The Committee have commissioned a variety of research projects about the structure and economics of the taxi-cab and private hire trades and how they operate; about why the public use these services and the improvements they would like; and about the adequacy and use made of the services provided.

The bulk of the work is being undertaken by consultants, Messrs. Freeman, Fox, Wilbur Smith and Associates; but the Research Institute for Consumer Affairs, members of the National Federation of Consumer Groups, and staff and students of the Geography Department of the London School of Economics and Political Science are also taking part.
