§ Mr. StonehouseWe are planning two new services in the Datel range
Datel 48K which is a high speed service for which modems will be available on rental from the Post Office. These modems can be used on private leased circuits. We are also planning on experimental high speed network between London, Manchester and Birmingham on which customers will be able to book time in a similar manner to the ordinary telephone network. This network is planned to be operational in 1970.Datel 400 which is being designed for the collection of both digital and analogue data from !emote points. This service should be available during 1971 or possibly 1970.We are also developing "Dataplex" services involving multiplexing techniques. A typical application will en 416W able computer bureaux to have telephone numbers on an exchange in distant towns enabling the customers of a bureau to call it more cheaply.
I shall also from time to time be announcing additional facilities on existing Datel services.
