HC Deb 18 July 1969 vol 787 c233W
Mr. Speed

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is the present number of staff in the Treasury and the annual cost of their salaries; and what were the comparable figures for the year ended 31st December, 1964.

Mr. Taverne

On 1st July, 1969, the number of staff in the (post-Fulton) Treasury was 902; on 1st January, 1965. the total of the (pre-Fulton) Treasury was 1,461.

Aggregate figures for annual salaries for these precise numbers are not available. The Civil Estimate provision for Treasury salaries in the current financial year is £1,565,000 and the out-turn of such expenditure in 1964–65 was £2,200,000.
