§ Sir J. Langford-Holtasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) whether, in view of public concern 213W about the accuracy in police radar equipment used in the detection of speeding offences, he is satisfied as to the accuracy of such equipment; and what progress has been made in the development of an improved device;
(2) if he will set up a working party, including officials of representative organisations, to investigate and report on the efficiency of the different types of speed recording equipment currently available and to make recommendations as to the suitability of each from a technical and operating standpoint for use by police forces.
§ Mr. Elystan MorganI have no reason to doubt the accuracy of the type of instrument supplied by the Home Office to the police, and I think that any public concern there may be on this score is misplaced. The Home Office is in constant touch with the police service in ensuring that advantage is taken of technological improvements and I see no need for the special working party proposed.
