HL Deb 17 July 1969 vol 304 c560WA
The Earl of HARROWBY

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether, in view of the fact that the Boundary Commissions' Report would add to the list, given in their Written Answer to a Question in this House on 24th November, 1964, of "Parliamentary boroughs" which embrace large rural areas, they will either reconsider the policy of calling such constituencies "boroughs" or arrange for the rural areas to be removed into "county" constituencies.

Lord STONHAM

The noble Lord is misinformed. The Boundary Commission for England have recommended eight borough constituencies which contain parts of rural districts. This is one fewer than the number of such constituencies existing now. The recommended constituencies in question are:

Chesterfield, Keighley, Newcastle under Lyme, Wakefield, Worcester, Peterborough, Thanet West and Crosby.

House adjourned at a quarter before eight o'clock.
