§ 68. Sir C. Osborneasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will give notice under the terms of the Commonwealth Sugar Agreement that after 1974 Great Britain will not undertake to pay a price per ton of sugar in excess of the price paid by sugar refiners in Canada, who at present pay less than half the price which is paid by British refiners.
§ Mr. HoyNo. It is impossible to forecast what Canadian refiners will be paying for sugar after 1974 or to say whether this would be an appropriate or practicable maximum price under the terms of the Agreement. I understand that, on the basis of the current world price, Canadian refiners purchasing from Commonwealth sources would have to pay only about 20 per cent. less than the maximum price payable under the Commonwealth Sugar Agreement to the developing country members during the three years 1969 to 1971.
