33. Mr. Edward M. Taylor

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what was the total net increase in National Savings in the first six months of 1969; and what were the comparable totals in the first six months of each of the previous five years.

Mr. Taverne

The provisional figures show an increase of £3.5 million in the first six months of 1969.

Comparable figures were:

  • £222.3 million in 1964.
  • £124.3 million in 1965.
  • £23.9 million in 1966.
  • £96.5 million in 1967.
  • £72.7 million in 1968.
