asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will publish figures showing (a) the estimated eligible expenditure by, and (b) the grant advanced to, local authorities under Section 11 of the Local Government Act 1966, for each year since its enactment.

My Lords, the information is as follows:

(a) Estimated eligible expenditure by local authorities in England and Wales:

1967–68 … £3.2 million
1968–69 … £3.9 million
1969–70 … £4.5 million

(b) Grant was 50 per cent. of approved expenditure until April 1, 1969, when it was increased to 75 per cent.
