§ Mr. Harold LeverThe average number of staff employed in each of the 744 tax offices to which taxpayers make returns is about 53. This number is made up of five officers of the rank of inspector or above; nine tax officers (Higher Grade); 21 tax officers; and 18 routine clerical and typing staff. The average annual cost of running an office of this size is approximately £105,000.
