Mr. Eddie Griffithsasked the Secretary of State for Employment and Productivity (1) how many people over 55 years of age have been made redundant during each year since the inception of the Redundancy Payments Scheme; and what percentage have remained unemployed for more than three months;
(2) how many workpeople in receipt of redundancy payments are subsequently unemployed for a period of more than three to four weeks;
(3) how many people since the inception of the Redundancy Payments Scheme have had to remove from their employment exchange area to obtain work after being declared redundant.
§ Mr. HattersleyI have no figures to show how many people over 55 have been made redundant, but I can give the following approximate figures for people aged 50 and over who have received redundancy payments:
1966 59,400 1967 101,690 1968 110,890 I regret that the information asked for in the second part of the first Question, and in the second and third Questions, is not available. Sample enquiries which are in progress should, however, provide indications of the duration of unemployment following redundancy and of the movement of redundant employees.
