§ Mr. Alfred Morrisasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether he will make a statement about Government assistance to the National 70W Gallery towards the purchase of the allegorical painting by Tiepolo which was purchased on their behalf at Christie's on 27th June.
§ Miss Jennie LeeThe Government have agreed that Parliament shall be asked to approve a special purchase grant to the National Gallery towards the purchase of this picture. The precise amount will be determined in the light of such contributions as the gallery may be able to obtain from outside sources. I shall inform the House of the amount of the grant as soon as it is known, and a Supplementary Estimate will be laid before Parliament in due course.
