§ Mr. Maginnisasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a further statement on the position of Anthony Grey, held in Peking, in relation to the recent improvements in the conditions under which he is detained.
§ Mr. FoleyI am informed that Mr. Grey has reported in a letter to his mother that since 30th May there has been an improvement in the conditions of his detention. This is encouraging, but I must emphasise once again that we regard anything short of Mr. Grey's early release from his unjustified detention as unsatisfactory. We shall continue to press the Chinese Government to this end.
