§ Mr. Lomasasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government if he is aware that the Huddersfield and Colne Valley Area Study conducted by the Yorkshire and Humberside Economic Planning Council and Board estimate that 21,000 new dwellings will be required in the County Borough of Huddersfield by 1981; and what action he proposes to take.
§ Mr. MacCollThe report states that the study area as a whole is likely to62W need between 9,000 and 21,000 new dwellings by 1981. However, a continuation of the recent building rate in the area would meet only the lower estimate of requirements. No separate estimate is made of the needs of Huddersfield itself. But the report shows the very poor housing conditions prevalent in Huddersfield and suggests that a much larger new building programme is needed. My right hon. Friend would be happy to do all he can to help Huddersfield in achieving this.
