HC Deb 21 January 1969 vol 776 cc95-6W
Sir C. Osborne

asked the Postmaster-General if he will give in column form the number of officials he employs established and non-established, respectively, whose salaries and allowances are under £1,500 per annum, between £1,500 and £3,000 per annum, between £3,000 and £5,000 per annum, between £5,000 and £7,500 per annum, and over £7,500 per annum, respectively.

Mr. Stonehouse

The number of staff employed at 1st October, 1968, was 328,685 established, and 89,066 non-established. These figures do not include some 23,000 Sub-Postmasters, who are employed on an agency basis. Part-time staff are counted as one half each.

Information is not readily available to break down these figures into the categories specified in the question and I do not consider that the time and effort required to obtain it would be justified.
