asked the Secretary of State for Defence if he will give examples of development including the evaluation and adaptation of commercial equipment for military use in the field of equipment and procedures for biological and chemical defence.

Mr. John Morris

Examples of development include respirators, protective clothing, detection equipment, decontamination procedures and equipment, and prophylactic measures.

Examples of commercial equipment evaluated and adapted for use in chemical and biological defence are butyl rubber gloves for protection against chemical agents; a talcum powder dispenser for decontaminating personal weapons and equipment with fuller's earth; a fire extinguisher for decontaminating vehicles, buildings and terrain.
