HL Deb 25 February 1969 vol 299 cc1057-8WA
THE EARL OF HARROWBY

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What is the sterling value of the loss of trade to the United Kingdom by Malaysia not securing the Hawker Siddeley Harrier jet planes, in view of the Government unreadiness to cover her defence in the intervening period, and whether this is the same as the gain to France by the purchase of Mirage planes in lieu.

LORD SHEPHERD

My Lords, this is a hypothetical question. We have made an offer to the Malaysian Government explaining the aircraft we could supply, the pilot training facilities we would provide, and the extent of our continuing military capability in the area until the end of 1971.

House adjourned at twenty-five minutes past five o'clock.
