§ Mr. Peter Bessellasked the President of the Board of Trade if he will give a general direction to the British Airports Authority to take appropriate measures for improving security arrangements at airports, in view of the fact that a newspaper correspondent was able to walk on to the tarmac around an El Al Boeing 707 at London (Heathrow) Airport and to enter the aircraft in the view of security guards on Wednesday, 19th February.
§ Mr. William RodgersNo. We are satisfied that the Authority is the best judge of the adequacy of its security arrangements at Heathrow, which have been extended following recent international incidents. For obvious reasons it would be inappropriate to detail the security measures recently taken.
