The unit's task is to assess the feasibility of using the Severnside area to help accommodate the expected major increase in the population of the country as a whole over the next 20 or 30 years. There is continuing consultation with the Welsh Council and the South West Regional Economic Planning Council during the course of the study. But consultation with local authorities about any detailed implications is likely to be more fruitful after the unit's general recommendations have been submitted to the Government.
