HC Deb 21 February 1969 vol 778 cc185-6W
Mr. Newens

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government how many houses built by development corporations or local authorities for sale to owner-occupiers are at present unoccupied in each of the designated new towns; and how many of these have been unoccupied for six months or more.

Mr. K. Robinson

The only designated new towns in England where development corporation houses built for sale are at present unsold are:

Houses at present unsold Of which. unsold for 6 months or more
Bracknell 14 14
Harlow 177 144
Skelmersdale 14 13
Washington 3 3

These figures exclude houses on which formal negotiations to purchase are proceeding.

In none of these towns do local authorities have such houses unsold.

Mr. Newens

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government how many applicants for rented accommodation are at present on the housing lists of the development corporations and the local authorities in each of the designated new towns.

Mr. K. Robinson

The respective figures in the following table are not necessarily comparable, since the areas of many of the local authorities concerned extend well beyond the new town boundaries.
