HC Deb 21 February 1969 vol 778 cc177-8W
Mr. Maurice Macmillan

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, (1) whether he will give an estimate of the total value of imported tin, sugar, wheat, meat, butter and coffee, respectively, both at world prices and at managed prices over the years 1958 to 1967 or 1959 to 1968;

(2) whether he will publish a table showing present differences between world prices and managed prices for tin. sugar, wheat, meat, butter and coffee respectively.

Mr. Hoy

The United Kingdom is a signatory to international agreements covering tin, sugar, wheat and coffee; United Kingdom imports of butter are subject to quotas, and those of bacon to the Bacon Market Sharing Understanding. It is not possible to provide a valid comparison between so-called world prices and those of United Kingdom imports as the proportion of trade transacted outside these arrangements is generally small and unrepresentative.
