§ Mr. Tudor Watkinsasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will give details of the representations received against the scheme for the reorganisation of secondary education submitted by the Breconshire Education Authority for the establishment of a seven-form entry mixed comprehensive school at Brecon and a smaller comprehensive school at Gwernyfed; and whether he has yet made a decision.
Mr. ShortThe only representations against the Breconshire Education Authority's proposals received by my Department came from ten local government electors who, while wishing to see comprehensive education introduced into these areas as soon as possible, considered that the size of the proposed school at Gwernyfed would be too small to provide an adequate comprehensive education and that the children would reap more benefit from attendance at the 151W larger school at Brecon where their education could continue to "A" level without interruption.
These representations and the Authority's submissions are now receiving close consideration but I am not yet in a position to take a decision on the proposals.
