HC Deb 20 February 1969 vol 778 c158W
Mr. Rankin

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he will state, to the nearest convenient date, the amount of money expended from Government sources on the construction and development of Prestwick Airport.

Mr. William Rodgers

Up to 1st April, 1966, when ownership vested in the British Airports Authority, the gross capital cost of the airport was approximately £8.75 million. The value of the airport at vesting date is regarded as a debt owing to the Government to be progressively repaid together with interest on the outstanding balance. Borrowings in respect of development after 1st April, 1966, to the extent that it has not been self-financed, are similarly treated.
