Hillasked the Secretary of State for Economic Affairs what arrangements he is making to promote further research into the net contribution which industries, other than agriculture, are making to the balance of payments, by import saving or export earning; and which Departments are responsible for initiating such research and publishing its results.
Mr. Alan WilliamsIn addition to the continuing drive to switch resources into exports and investment, my Department is considering a proposal for a study based on input/output analysis of the import content of the output of various industries, and of their export levels. Responsibility for such research into the net contribution made by our industries to the balance of payments is shared by my Department and the sponsoring Departments concerned.
