HC Deb 17 February 1969 vol 778 c49W
Mr. Speed

asked the Minister for the Civil Service if he will list the grades of civil servants who receive 4½d. a mile or less car mileage allowance for official business in their own cars where no public transport is available.

Mrs. Hart

Mileage allowances of less than 4½d. a mile are paid for official travel to all civil servants who own motor vehicles with an engine capacity of 151 c.c. to 500 c.c. The rates are 4¼d. a mile for the first 7,000 miles in a year, and 2½d. thereafter.

Mr. Speed

asked the Minister for the Civil Service what is the car mileage allowance paid to a senior executive officer in a home department for using his car on official business where no public transport is available.

Mrs. Hart

If his motor vehicle has an engine capacity of more than 500 c.c. he is paid 8¾d. a mile for the first 7,000 miles of official travel in a year, and 5¼d. thereafter. If the vehicle is less than 500 c.c, the rates are 4¼d. and 2½d.
