asked the Minister of Transport what are the names of the subsidiary and associate companies of the London Transport Board, the British Waterways Board and British Railways, respectively; and what is the percentage of the issued share capital of each subsidiary owned by those authorities.

The London Transport Board has one wholly owned subsidiary company, London Transport Trustee Company Ltd.

The British Waterways Board has nine wholly owned subsidiary companies, none of which has carried on business since 1950: Canal Transport Ltd. Erewash Canal Carrying Co. Ltd. Grandion Ltd. Grand Union Canal Carrying Co. Ltd. Grand Union Estates Ltd. Grand Union (Stevedoring & Wharfage) Co. Ltd. Grand Union Transport Ltd. Grand Union Warehousing Co. Ltd. Thomas Clayton (Paddington) Ltd.

The British Railways Board has the following seventeen wholly-owned subsidiary companies:— Air Commerce Ltd. British Rail—Continental Ltd. British Rail Freightliner Ltd. British Rail Hovercraft Ltd. British Rail—International Inc. British Transport Hotels Ltd. British Transport Shipping Management (Scotland) Ltd. Britravel Nominees Ltd. Cartrain Ltd. Europabus Ltd. Junction Nominees Ltd. Network Nominees Ltd. Oil Rail Terminals Ltd. Pullman Car Co. Ltd. Railway Sites Ltd. Railway Sites (Scotland) Ltd. Seaspeed Ltd.

The Board has one other subsidiary company, the Société Anonyme de Navigation Angleterre—Lorraine—Alsace, of which it owns 79.95 per cent. of the issued share capital.

In addition, the Railways Board has interests in the following companies: British Transport Advertising Ltd.—50 percent. C.C.P. (Marylebone) Ltd.—49 per cent. Freightliners Ltd.—49 per cent. Fishguard and Rosslare Railways & Harbour Co—29.3 per cent. Channel Tunnel Co. Ltd.—26.1 per cent. Containerbase Leeds Ltd.—20 per cent. Containerbase Liverpool Ltd.—18 per cent. Sutton Bridge Dock Co.—17.4 per cent. Société Belgo—Anglaise des Ferryboates SA.—15.5 per cent. Containerbase Scotland Ltd.—15 per cent. Société Ferroviaire International de Transports Frigerifiques (Interfrige)—10.64 per cent. Containerbase Federation Ltd.—10.6 per cent. Sutton Harbour Improvement Co.—9.7 per cent. Société International pour le Transport par Transcontainers (Intercontainers)—8.3 per cent. Derwent Valley Light Railway Co.—6.17 per cent.
