§ 92. Mr. Wingfield Digbyasked the President of the Board of Trade what tests are applied before relief is given on goods imported from abroad; and what goods are admitted on the grounds that they are for the advancement of sport.
§ Mr. DellI do not know what particular reliefs the hon. Member has in mind. The precise tests vary, but relief is not normally granted on goods imported for domestic use where the Board of Trade are satisfied that suitable British goods are adequately available. A variety of sports goods imported for 315W non-commercial purposes have qualified for relief, including gliders and various articles of equipment imported for use by competitors in the Olympic Games.
