73. Mr. Ridsdale

asked the President of the Board of Trade what was the value of capital investment by British manufacturers in the United States of America in 1968; and what was the increase or decrease since 1967.

Mr. Crosland

The figure for 1968 is not yet available, but I would expect it to be higher than in 1967.

74. Mr. Ridsdale

asked the President of the Board of Trade what was the value of capital investment by overseas manufacturers in British industry in 1968; how much of this came from the United States of America; and what was the increase or decrease since 1967.

Mr. Crosland

Complete information for 1968 is not yet available. But in the first nine months of the year, direct investment in the United Kingdom covered in the Board's inquiries totalled £231 million, of which probably 80–90 per cent. came from the United States. The Comparable figure for 1967 was £189 million.
