HC Deb 12 February 1969 vol 777 c326W
54. Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

asked the President of the Board of Trade which foreign passenger lines using the port of Southampton carry life-jackets for use in emergency which fail to comply with the standards and specifications laid down by his Department; and what action he proposes to take to secure compliance with these standards and specifications.

Mr. William Rodgers

We have been prepared on the basis of reciprocity to accept on foreign passenger ships calling at United Kingdom ports life jackets of types certified by the Administration concerned as conforming with the requirements of the International Convention for Safety of Life at Sea, 1960.
