HC Deb 12 February 1969 vol 777 cc332-3W
Sir J. Eden

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he will publish figures for the 10 years 1964–65 to 1973–74 showing, for past years, the actual, and, for future years, the latest estimated, capacity of the Scottish Electricity Boards in megawatts sent out, and the maximum demand in Scotland in an average cold spell, including, separately, weather-corrected figures for past years.

Mr. Ross

For past years the information in respect of the Scottish mainland system is as follows:—

Maximum Demand Actual Weather Corrected
MW MW
1964–65 3,704 3,704
1965–66 4,005 4,086
1966–67 4,009 4,300
1967–68 4,420 4,557

Output Capacity of Generating Stations Actual at
31st March 1965 3,919
1966 4,173
1967 4,622
1968 5,573

The latest Scottish estimates of future demand and capacity published by the Scottish Boards are those in their recent booklet Plans for the Future, 1968–75, which refers to a peak load of 8,231 MW at 31st March, 1975, and a total output capacity of 9,680 at the same date. The Boards have not published figures for intervening years.
