HC Deb 12 February 1969 vol 777 c306W
44. Mr. Kenneth Baker

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he plans to ask the Big Four banks to make a full disclosure of their reserves, which the National Board for Prices and Incomes recommended in May, 1967, when they next announce their trading results.

63. Mr. Stainton

asked the President of the Board of Trade when he proposes to act on the recommendation of the National Board for Prices and Incomes and invoke section 12 of the Companies Act, 1967, in order that banking and discount companies shall publish true profits and balance sheets.

Mr. Dell

I am now examining the full accounts of the banks, and I shall review the need for continuing the present exemptions in the light of the information which this examination yields. If the review should show that the exemptions could safely be withdrawn from any particular class of banks before they were withdrawn generally, then I would withdraw them from that class.
