HC Deb 11 February 1969 vol 777 c282W
80. Mr. Marten

asked the Minister of Technology what he estimates to be the increase in the delivered price of a British built oil tanker of 240,000 tons using British steel due to the proposed price increases of steel.

Mr. Fowler

A recent case study indicated that a tanker of 250,000 tons dwt. ordered now would cost over £220,000 more than one ordered last year as a result of the proposed increased prices of steel purchased for the ship. Another study suggested a rather lower figure. This estimate makes no allowance for any increase attributable to the steel content of the engine and equipment.
