Mr. David Howell

asked the Minister for the Civil Service if he will list those large-scale establishments in the Ministries of Defence and Technology engaged in production, which the Mallabar Committee is examining.

The Committee is concerned with the following large-scale Government industrial establishments:

The Royal Ordnance Factories (Army Department) at:

  • Birtley, Co. Durham.
  • Bishopton, Renfrewshire.
  • Blackburn, Lancashire.
  • Bridgwater, Somerset.
  • Chorley, Lancashire.
  • Enfield, Middlesex.
  • Glascoed, Monmouthshire.
  • Leeds, Yorkshire.
  • Nottingham.
  • Patricroft, Eccles, near Manchester.
  • Radway Green, near Crewe, Cheshire.

The Royal Ordnance Factories (Ministry of Technology) at:

  • Burghfield, near Reading.
  • Cardiff.

The Royal Dockyards at:

  • Chatham, Kent.
  • Devonport, Devon.
  • Portsmouth, Hants.
  • Rosyth, Fife.
  • Gibraltar.

The Royal Naval Torpedo Factory at:

  • Alexandria, Dunbartonshire.

The Gauge Factory of the Chief Inspector of Naval Ordnance at:

  • Sheffield

It is, naturally, for the Committee to decide which of these establishments it wishes to visit.
