Mr. James Davidson

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will give a breakdown of the cost of £4,808 of holding the referendum in Gibraltar in 1967 which enabled the people of Gilbraltar to indicate their views regarding the future government of Gibraltar.

The total cost to the Gibraltar Government of staging the referendum in Gibraltar is now understood

show the total current expenditure within Government Departments on research and development and the amount of this which is spent on salaries and wages, on a basis comparable to the figure of £92 million for 1964–65.

The figures are given in the following table for the years from 1964–65 for which information is available of total current expenditure on research and development carried out within Government Departments.
