asked the Secretary of State for Economic Affairs whether he will give an estimate of the total cost of his Department since its inception to the latest convenient stated date; and what is the estimated cost of running the Department from the present date to the end of the financial year.

The total cost of the Department of Economic Affairs from its inception to 31st December, 1968, was about £4,800,000. The estimated cost from 1st January to 31st March, 1969, is £370,000.
