§ Mr. Lubbockasked the Postmaster-General how many letters have been sent out by head post offices asking people to reduce their use of the post to the absolute minimum; to what extent his Department has reduced its use of the post; and what has been the cost to public funds of this exercise.
§ Mr. StonehouseLocal managers had a clear duty to tell large users of the post more about the postal restrictions than could be conveyed by general publicity during the recent dispute. Neither the extent and cost of these local 179W letters nor the extent of restrictions on less important post office letters was controlled centrally; and I cannot give this information without detailed inquiry at some hundreds of offices which would involve considerable expense.
