§ Mrs. Shirley WilliamsI would expect the raising of the school leaving age in 1972–73 to have a beneficial effect in increasing the number of children qualifying for higher education particularly in local education authorities where the number staying on voluntarily is below average. The reorganisation of secondary education on comprehensive lines would have a similar effect. As my hon. Friend is aware, a higher proportion of children 145W aged between 15 and 17 are engaged in full-time courses in further education in East Anglia than in any other region.
