HC Deb 04 February 1969 vol 777 cc73-4W
Mr. Dempsey

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he is satisfied with the effect of the four-week course for the certification of teachers in relation to those members of the teaching profession in Scotland who qualify at the same time by way of the 30-week course at colleges of education; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Ross

It is a statutory function of the General Teaching Council to determine the conditions for exceptional admission to the Register, and it may require teachers conditionally registered to complete successful courses of varying length before admission to the Register.

The Council has recently published a statement which deals with this matter, and I have asked it to send a copy to my hon. Friend.
