§ Mr. DellIt is not possible to distinguish imports of crankshafts and forgings for the shipbuilding industry in the import statistics. The normal rate of duty on imports of these items from Italy is 11 per cent. but relief is available to the shipbuilding industry under Sections 5(2) and 5(3) of the Import Duties Act, 1958.

The British producers of crankshafts and running gear for marine engines have sought guidance from the Board of Trade on the kind of evidence needed to support an application by them under the Customs Duties (Dumping and Subsidies) Acts, 1957 and 1968; and advice on this has been given. If the industry submits an application with supporting prima facie evidence of dumping and of material injury being caused or threatened thereby, the Board will consider the case.
