HC Deb 04 February 1969 vol 777 cc55-6W
33. Mr. McGuire

asked the Minister of Power what he estimates is the capital cost of second coal-fired power stations at Drax and West Burton.

Mr. Freeson

The cost of the whole Drax power station was estimated to be £52 per kW. The second half, if built, would cost less than this because it would share certain facilities with the station now being built. I have no estimate for a second power station at West Burton, but in the reply to my hon. Friend the Member for Derbyshire, North-East (Mr. Swain) on 1st April, 1968 [Vol. 762, c. 38], it was estimated that the cost of a new coal-fired power station would be about £55 per kW.
