HC Deb 03 February 1969 vol 777 c48W
Mr. John Page

asked the Postmaster-General what procedure should be followed to obtain cancellation of charges by telephone subscribers who get, and are therefore charged for, wrong connections; whether a note of these is kept and reported at the time telephone bills are paid; and what action should be taken in cases when the operator does not reply when a subscriber tries to report wrong numbers.

Mr. Joseph Slater

A caller who has obtained a wrong number on a dialled call can obtain a credit, or a refund in the case of a call from a public call office, if he reports the matter to the operator. Due allowance is made for any credits when the subscriber's bill is prepared, but it is not possible to detail such credits in the bill. A subscriber should always obtain a reply from the operator; but, when a reply is excessively delayed, there may be a fault in the equipment, and a further attempt to call the operator should be made.
