§ Mr. Gregoryasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government what was the average benefit per head to ratepayers in the county borough of Stockport in each of the last four years under the provisions of the Rating (Interim Relief) Act, 1964.
§ Mr. K. RobinsonGrant paid by the Government to the Stockport County Borough Council under Section 1 of the Act (which provides for grants to rating authorities of areas with a relatively high proportion of old people) amounted to £15,750 in 1964–65, £17,815 in 1965–66 and £19,505 in 1966–67. This benefited all ratepayers by reducing the rate poundage below what it would otherwise have been by about ¾d., 1d. and 1d. respectively. The average relief to each ratepayer was 5s. 6d., 6s. 4d. and 6s. 11d. No grant was paid in 1967–68.
45WRelief granted by the authority under Section 2 of the Act to individual householders suffering hardship because of rate increases since 1962–63 totalled £274 in 1964–65 and £293 in 1965–66, the average relief being about £3 19s. 5d. and £3 18s. 2d. respectively. No relief under this section was given in the years 1966–67 and 1967–68.
