Mr. Sheldon

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what further steps he is taking to implement the recommendation of the Platt Report on the Welfare of Children in Hospital that children should be nursed in children's units and not in adult wards.

Mr. Ennals

In accordance with advice from the Standing Medical Advisory Committee and the Central Health Services Council my right hon. Friend is requesting hospital authorities to review their arrangements for the care of children and adolescents in non-psychiatric

Mr. Crossman

As paragraph 91 of the White Paper says, we need the facts now being gathered by the Government Social Survey before we can decided the details.

Mr. Dean

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services when he expects the further study of the circumstances of families with children anounced in paragraph 42 of Command Paper No. 3883, to be set up; who will undertake the study; and when he expects to receive the report.

Mr. Crossman

Preparatory work is already in progress, but it is too early to say who, apart from my own research staff, will be concerned in carrying out the study, or how soon results will become available.
